MMA
MMA stands for Mixed Martial Arts. It’s a full-contact combat sport that allows a wide variety of fighting techniques and skills from various martial arts and combat sports to be used in competition. MMA fighters often train in multiple disciplines such as boxing, wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and others to be well-rounded competitors.
Wrestling
Wrestling is a combat sport involving grappling techniques such as clinch fighting, throws, takedowns, pins, and joint locks. It can be practiced both as a competitive sport and as a form of self-defense or military training. Wrestling has a rich history and is one of the oldest forms of combat, with roots dating back to ancient civilizations. Modern wrestling is divided into various styles, including folkstyle, freestyle, Greco-Roman, and submission wrestling.
Boxing
Boxing is a combat sport where two opponents engage in a contest of skill, speed, and endurance inside a ring. The primary objective is to land punches on the opponent while avoiding their punches. Boxers typically wear padded gloves and adhere to a set of rules and regulations governing the match. The most common types of punches in boxing include jabs, crosses, hooks, and uppercuts, which can be thrown to the head or body. Matches can be won by knockout, where one boxer is unable to continue, or by judges’ decision based on scoring criteria such as effective punching, defense, ring generalship, and aggression.
BJJ
BJJ stands for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. It’s a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and ground fighting techniques. BJJ emphasizes leverage and technique to allow a smaller person to defend themselves effectively against a larger opponent.
Kickboxing
Kickboxing is a stand-up combat sport that combines elements of boxing with kicks from martial arts such as karate, Muay Thai, and Taekwondo. It typically involves striking techniques using both fists and legs, making it a versatile and dynamic fighting style. Kickboxing matches can take place in a ring or a cage, and fighters compete to win either by knockout, technical knockout, judges’ decision, or stoppage by the referee.
Stretch and Mobility
A stretch class is a group fitness session focused on improving flexibility, mobility, and range of motion through a series of stretching exercises. These classes typically involve a combination of static stretches, where a stretch is held in a stationary position, and dynamic stretches, which involve moving through a range of motion. Stretch classes may also incorporate elements of yoga or Pilates to enhance flexibility and promote relaxation. Participants can expect to target various muscle groups throughout the body, with an emphasis on proper breathing and alignment to maximize the benefits of each stretch. Stretch classes are suitable for individuals of all fitness levels and can help improve overall flexibility, reduce muscle tension, and prevent injury.
